Abstract

Endotracheal intubation can cause various complications. One of these is vocal cord paralysis. We experienced unilateral vocal cord paralysis following tracheal intubation using fiberoptic bronchoscope in a 22-year-old female patient. Immediately after emergence, she complained hoarseness and sore throat. With computerized tomography and laryngeal endoscopy, we found left vocal cord paralysis. Patient recovered without problem with aid of steroids. Therefore, precise procedure and careful monitoring are required when inserting endotracheal tube into trachea even when using fiberoptic bronchoscope.
